Then and now

Metamorphic Design Build started as Fitzgerald Woodworking in 2000. Over the ensuing years the business has grown and evolved. The original focus on timber-frame joinery and finish carpentry for houses, shifted to encompass the complete process of creating a functional building or space. A company that was for many years just myself is now the framework for a rotating cast of carpenters, designers, and tradespeople. We work closely with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and our clients to build functional and interesting projects. And while we still take pleasure in obscure timber-frame joinery, we also build with steel, concrete and even a little bit of plastic now and then.

About Metamorphic Design Build

Metamorphic Design Build can take on a range of projects, from smaller remodels, to custom new residential construction and light commercial work.  We specialize in projects that require extra attention to detail and problem solving.  While many of our projects are designed in house, we also collaborate with architects and designers. Energy efficiency and durability are important to us and we often work with energy modelers to fine tune our projects. MDB is based in Fairbanks but has done projects in Anchorage, Kodiak, Haines and Juneau.
